We are slowly coming to the end of 2020.

It has been a tough year for all and probably an even demanding year in 2021, with every one working hard to repair the damages made to society and to businesses large and small.

Having worked with Eme for over 37 years, I would like to take the opportunity of thanking all my clients for their loyalty in continuing to work and collaborate with me. I hope that I have managed in my own small way to take away some of the burden and stress that can often be experienced with suppliers.

I have certainly enjoyed working with you, and I have always considered you firstly as persons (almost family), and secondly as very professional people. I hope that I will still have the pleasure of working with you in 2021.

For next year I am planning a couple of new projects, but as they are still on the drawing board, I will leave the details until a later date.

China Virus (Coronavirus)

This virus has taken a terrible toll on the World. We must never forget the Country that gave us this virus, a Country that has already given us SARS, a Country that just cannot be believed.

I wish to remind those with short memories that the Chinese industry that supplies us with houseware and kitchenware products has a long history of deceit:

Dumping cheap product on to the EU market place (government funded)

Copying products of other manufacturers. Even the boxes of these manufacturers.

Using Melamine with dangerous chemicals for household and children’s products.

Using industrial steel that has been found to contain lead so that they can sell at a lower price.
Advice: If you are thinking of buying from China, always ask for a chemical migration test certificate that has been supplied by an international independent test laboratory.
Never accept Letter of Credit at sight. Always allow the possibility of a migration test in your own Country once the goods have arrived in port. If it fails, you do not pay, and the Chinese supplier can take it back.

Faking Product Test Certificates.

Faking ISO certification.

Remember, the greed for money of some Chinese suppliers is so great that it comes before your and your clients health.

As with every New Year, we will be exhibiting at Ambiente.

During the Fair, we will be exhibiting our latest creations, INFINITY 18/10 designed specifically for the HORECA sector of the market. An extended range of RODEO kitchen knives, and a new range of VERO cutlery.

95% of our production is “Made in Italy” is our motto, unlike many of our competitors which pretend that nearly all their products are made in EU, when they are not.

Ambiente & FHA Singapore & Chicago NRA 2018

I was beginning to believe that the time for trade fairs was at an end. New technology was in the wings to take their place. But then came Ambiente 2018! What a great fair it was. People arriving from all over the world with the intent to buy Eme products.

It is not always the quantity that counts, but more often the quality of the visitors that participate to any one fair. Homi was a complete disaster as regards to the quality of the visitors. I was left with the impression that most of the visitors were taking advantage of the free flight and hotel offer made by Homi to visit Milan and do some shopping. While Ambiente was completely different, a professional trade fair open to business.

For the first year, we also exhibited at the FHA 2018 Show, along with Sanelli and Agnelli. Once again a very well organised and professional fair, with the only draw back that the FHA and Suntec were in two different locations.

We are now preparing for the NRA show in Chicago. For beginners, this fair is not great. The standard stands that are offered are not really good and are very small which does not allow a company to fully present itself. Image and appearance is everything! Chicago does not allow this in the first years, but only after many years of gaining points. A bit like flight miles, but without the pleasure.

Our stand position at the Chicago NRA is Booth 5636. I hope to see you there.

I would just like to thank all the visitors to our stand at Ambiente 2017, that has made it the most successful of all times.

However, I must stress that the number of major companies from the EU block of Countries such as Germany and France, was quite disappointing. My own personal opinion is that most of the “Buyers” of these countries still believe that the only place to do business is in China; but what really worries me about Chinese imports is that they are often made without any tests for chemical migration.

This is a very simple test for checking to see that the steel does not contain any dangerous metals such as Lead.

When I mention this point to buyers, it seems that they want to close their ears to a very serious matter. But then that is their decision, and that of their company that they represent.

They also do not believe that a EU company can be as competitive as an Chinese company. Well I can assure you that we (EME) can!

Monna Lisa – The New Cutlery Model Preview

During a visit to London, I was walking along one of the many back streets of London that are so often unknown to the tourist, and to my surprise, on passing an antique shop, I saw an 18th early 19th century fork that caught my eye.

The fork in itself was nothing particular, and in fact it was probably a production reject as the bottom of the handle was unfinished, but the ferrule (the part that separates the steel from the handle) had something that I liked.

I could not resist it, I bought it immediately.

The fork stayed for many years in one of my draws, and being one of those “tidy, but untidy” persons, I nearly lost it more than once.

I have always been looking for a model that could support our Eme Napoleon cutlery model, without subtracting from it.

In creating Monna Lisa, I believe that the balance has been found, and I am very pleased with my creation.

I hope that my readers will feel the same.
